Also known as Lumineers or laminate veneers, porcelain laminate veneers are a custom-made porcelain shell permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth, applied with little to no enamel removal, or at most a 0.3-0.7mm etch when needed.
Because they're thin and let light through the way natural enamel does, they give a genuinely natural-looking result that keeps its colour over time.
When Are Porcelain Laminates Used?

How Long Does Treatment Take?
Porcelain laminate treatment takes at least two appointments. Exactly how long depends on how many teeth and laminates are involved.
Does It Hurt?
No pain is felt during the procedure itself, local anaesthetic is used whenever it's needed to keep you comfortable. Afterwards, temporary laminates protect your teeth and prevent sensitivity until your bonding appointment.
What Will My Veneers Look Like?
Your mouth is measured at the first appointment, and a mock-up is produced in the lab from that model. You and your dentist can adjust this 3D preview together before agreeing on the final look.
How Long Do Porcelain Laminate Veneers Last?
With good care, porcelain laminate veneers typically last 10 years or more. Their lifespan depends mainly on oral hygiene, avoiding biting hard objects (ice, pen caps, fingernails), and wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth.
Are Porcelain Laminates Reversible?
Traditional porcelain veneers require a small amount of enamel removal to fit properly, which makes them not fully reversible. Some very thin, no-prep laminate options require little to no enamel removal and are closer to reversible, but whether that option suits your teeth depends on their current shape, size, and position, confirmed at a consultation.
Porcelain Laminates vs Composite Veneers
Porcelain laminates are more stain-resistant, more durable, and closely mimic the light-reflecting quality of natural enamel, but need a lab to fabricate them and typically cost more. Composite veneers are applied directly, chairside, in a single visit, cost less, and are easier to repair, but wear and discolour faster than porcelain, usually needing replacement within a few years rather than a decade or more.
Caring for Porcelain Laminate Veneers
Veneers are cared for exactly like natural teeth: brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and regular dental check-ups. The main things to actively avoid are biting hard objects directly with the veneered teeth, and, for patients who grind their teeth at night, skipping a recommended night guard.
